With a focus on noted lyricists like Stevie, Joni, and Janis as well as Lauren Hill, Ingrid Michaelson, and Brandi Carlisle, bridges will be made to the present less known musicians like Amy Gerhartz and Anna Nalick. Lyricists will be of special interest, but occasionally there will be an investigation into the fringe scene of all-women thrash metal bands of Florida and electric guitar divas of California.

About the Author
Dawn Van Ness is a Virginia based writer and journalist who is avid about all things artistic, but has mad love for music. An omnivorous audiophile, her own music collection defies categorization: she came, she listened, she fell in love with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and STP, but then it was the Breeders, Alanis Morisette, the Cranberries, Garbage, Jewel, Melissa Etheridge, and Joan Osborne.
Before long, she was in the local library checking out the tapes and cds of Blondie, Pat Benatar, Carly Simon, and Fleetwood Mac.
Sweet Dreams (about Patsy Cline) , Coal Miner’s Daughter (about Lorretta Lyn), What’s Love Got to Do With It (about Tina Turner), and The Rose (about a self-destructive rock star played by Bette Middler) only fed her addiction to know more about the women in her life and turned her on to country and classic rock.
Now jazz, blues, folk, and R&B are taking on interest. Will it ever stop? She hopes not.
Currently she is intrigued by KT Tunstall, Amy Whinehouse, and Gabriella Cilmi and hopes to be visiting venues locally and abroad to bring her online community more of what they love: women in music.
